In Shower Body Lotion/ Wet Skin Lotion

Saving time getting ready and saving money is always a must, so companies spend a great amount of time and money trying to save us time and money.
Ironic huh?

Well I purchased two products that help with that and moisturize my skin. Two birds one stone kinda thing. Mainly because the commercials make it seem so easy!  Just shower, moisturize and done!

In all truth I went to my local big box store to purchase the Nivea one because that's the only commercial I had viewed at that point but upon arriving with my very chatty preteen I had completely forgotten which one I was looking for and purchased the Jergens.

Once home my preteen informed me that I had indeed purchased the wrong one, so I said oh well and started using it.  Later in the week I was at my Pharmacy and picked up the Nivea.

Before I give my opinion I must state that I have oily skin, but my legs and arms are often dry. I do not like lotion due to the "oily" or greasy feeling that I get when using it. I almost always only use lotion right before bed so I can sleep while its working and I don't have to feel the oiliness of it.

Nivea In Shower Body Lotion
Price:  Less than 6.00
How to Use Product: Shower as normal, apply product, then wash off
Warnings : Can leave residue on bottom of tub/shower so a fall risk is possible. Bottle states to wash off bottom of tub after use.
Sticky or Oily Feeling?: YES!!! Oily feeling for sure! I didn't like the way it felt at all.
Final Review:  While my skin felt more moisturized with this product and lasted much longer than the Jergens I don't like the fall risk or oily feeling.  Its a personal thing for me, so this is a product I wouldn't buy again.  I actually gave it to my preteen to use.

Jergens Wet Skin Moisturizer
Price:  Less than 5.00
How to Use Product: Shower as normal, while still wet apply lotion and towel off
Warnings : Since this product can be used outside of the shower/tub the risk is small
Sticky or Oily Feeling?: NO!
Final Review: While my skin was moisturized, the product did not last as long as Nivea.  Though that's a let down there is no oily feeling, no slip risk its a product I will buy again and use every day. I really like this product

So the winner? Jergens!

I was not paid, asked or solicited to review these products. Its something someone asked me personally and since I felt so passionate about my response I decided to do a blog post.

06/15/2016 Update
Its summer time where I live and we have the most awful amount of humidity!
That being said I still stand by my earlier choice of Jergens WetSkin as the best of the two. While Nivea did last longer, in this humid summer heat...it feels horrible on my skin. Jergens goes on and no after feel.
Also I have to say...that Nivea might be great for the winter time dryness, due to it lasting longer. Since I dislike a lot about the product it will be my last resort (personal opinion), for others it may be perfect.

6 Months later and my winner is still Jergens.

Thank you

I have been lazy over the past two years in my blogging, had a rough pregnancy and now a 10 month old. So needless to say I have had my hands full.

My blog normally gets 30 views a month, and I rarely check the stats on this...I just get on blog and get off.

Today for some reason I went to look for a specific post to edit it, upon that I noticed one of my post had 911 views! Its only been up for 10 days!! Then I got to my stats and it says I had 1,298 views in the last 30 days. WOW!!

So thank you for coming, stopping by checking out my stuff. It means a lot to know that someone some ware is reading, doing a bible study or cooking something I posted.

Thanks,
CG

Prayers for Momma's

Life is hard and being a mom is harder. There are days when we have it all together and things are going right but more often than we like to admit our days go the opposite way.  The kids are crying, dishwasher don't want to work, and we are lucky to brush our teeth (a shower just isn't in the cards on these days)

Being a mom again at the age of 32 has taught me ALOT.  First: I know why people say have your babies in your 20's, you are more of a spring chicken and you can handle the sleepless nights better. Second: I have more patience than I did at 20 when I had my first baby (yes I put 12yrs in between my kids)

I have been the mom on the porch crying out to God for help because I have had no sleep, the babies teething and everyone wants something from me.  I am have been in the trenches and fought the fight mommas! I have been there and done that and come out to the other side! There is hope! These days will not last forever and you WILL miss them.   God is how I survived a difficult pregnancy and a baby who cries all the time!

God will help, deliver and see you through! You only need to call out to him!  If you have read my previous post you know I have a War Room board on Pinterest (you can see that here )

So below are some of the prayers I pulled from my War Room, print them, save them and use them when your day seems to be less than you planned. You are not alone!

Stay strong mommas, this stage will only last a little while and then they will be on their own.  Blink and you will miss it, you will miss all of it. Even the late nights, teething, crying, bottle washing, puking, formula stains...you will miss every moment you have shared with your kids.

Praying for you all.

Frog Eyed Salad

No its not real Frog Eyes! Its a pasta! Acini de Pepe Pasta to be exact!

I married a Mormon and I'm told this is a traditional Mormon dish...served at almost every family/church function.

I first tried this about 14yrs ago and i have to say i have been hooked since!

I have included a nutritonal guide as well.

Frog Eyed Salad

1 Cup Sugar
1 tbs Flour
1 Pinch of Salt
1 Cup Pineapple Juice ( usually about 1 cup in 1 can of pineapple chunks)
1 egg yoke stired up
8oz Acini De Peppi Noodles
1 container Extra Creamy Cool Whip
1 Can Pineapple Chunks
1 Can Manderian Oranges
* Marshmellows if you want, we dont like

Place Sugar, Flour,Salt, Pineapple Juice & Egg into small sauce pan, stir well and cook slowly ( so you dont scramble the egg) until thick and bubbly. STIR OFTEN!!!
Once thickened remove from heat and let cool

In a large sauce pan fill with 20oz water with 1 tsp of oil. Bring to boil, place noodles in, stir and cook for 9 minutes

Drain and Rinse Twice

Place noodles & sauce in a bowl, stir, add in cool whip, then fruits.

I like to let sit in frige for 24hrs before serving

Enjoy!

December Christmas 31 Day Scripture Plan

While I normally only post Christmas blogs after Thanksgiving because I feel bad for Thanksgiving every year.  Its so often gets over looked!

That being said I am breaking that rule due to my schedule for the week of Thanksgiving, I want yall to have this before the 1st of December.

While I wish these were of my own creation again they are not, some day I will sit down and let God flow through me to create something like this...I just do not feel it is in His plan for the moment.

Take a moment to down load the Plan and Worksheet and spend the month of December with me going through the Bible remembering the reason for the season.

I hope your Christmas Season is filled with lots of love, laughter and happiness.

Scripture / Prayer Index Box

I originally had this idea after seeing War Room, a index card box with dividers that could quickly lead me to a Scripture or Prayer for what ever need I had at that time.   Upon having this idea I have been looking over Pinterest looking for ideas on how to implement this idea.

First I went to my local big box all in one store and purchased a Index Card Box, some index cards and Index Card Dividers.  Then I started making a list "subjects" for my divider cards, then I went to Pinterst again looking for different Prayers for Different areas of life. (My War Room Board can be found here)

Then I stumbled across this pin for actual Index Scripture Card and Index Card Dividers! They are quite beautifully done I might add! They are done by Not Consumed Blog (So all credit goes to her)

Slow Cooker Chili / Copy Cat Wendys Chili

I am not a Chili fan...at all. Ironically I love Wendy's Chili any time of the year.  So when I stumbled across a Pinterest recipe by Cooking Classy and I had to make it.

O.M.G it exactly like Wendy's Chili....which means its exactly like my kind of chili!

Ps. I have yet to make this in the slow cooker, It taste fabulous on stove top .

Slow Cooker Chili | Cooking Classy

Prep Time: 15 minutes
Cook Time: 6 hours, 10 minutes
Yield: 6 - 7 servings
Ingredients
  • 1 Tbsp olive oil
  • 2 lbs lean ground beef (Can be made with Ground Turkey, but use 2.5lbs)
  • 1 large yellow onion, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves of garlic, finely minced
  • 2 (14.5) oz cans diced tomatoes with green chilies*
  • 3 (8 oz) cans tomato sauce
  • 1/2 cup water or beef broth
  • 2 Tbsp chili powder
  • 2 1/2 tsp ground cumin
  • 2 tsp paprika
  • 2 tsp cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp granulated sugar
  • 1/2 tsp ground coriander (I personally add 1tsp)
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • 1 (15 oz) can dark red kidney beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1 (15 oz) can light red kidney beans, drained and rinsed

Directions
  • Heat olive oil in a large and deep non-stick skillet over medium-high heat. Once oil is hot, add onion and saute 3 minutes, then add garlic and saute 30 seconds longer. Pour onions into a 6 or 7 quart slow cooker.
  • Return skillet to medium-high eat, add beef and cook stirring occasionally until beef has browned. Drain most of fat from beef, leaving about 2 Tbsp in with beef (this is optional, I think it ads flavor but you can drain it all if you'd prefer). Pour browned beef into slow cooker.
  • Add diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, 1/2 cup water or beef broth, chili powder, cumin, paprika, cocoa powder, sugar, coriander and season mixture with salt and pepper to taste. Stir mixture, cover with lid and cook on low heat for 5 - 6 hours.
  • Stir in dark and light red kidney beans and allow to heat through, about 10 minutes (if you want the soup to have more liquid you can add in another 1/2 cup water or beef broth). Serve warm with desired toppings (I say the cheese and sour cream is a must, everything else is optional).
  • *If you don't like heat then you can use canned tomatoes without green chiles since they are a little spicy.

Bless these Lips!

Im starting a new bible study today by Sharla Fritz called Bless These Lips , 40 Days of Spiritual Renewal.

What leaves our mouths can be so empowering or hurtful.  Sometimes things just slip out with out using our filter (I'm Guilty of that!), often I am just as the next person about what comes out of my mouth.  I am Scottish, Irish and Italian (75% the first to , Italian 10%) so I can get hot headed and quick tempered...my mouth often gets me into trouble. Its also not what I say but how I say it.

Examine what God’s Word has to say about our mouths, tongues, and lips. Discover the power of your words and how you can influence your world through them. Each chapter uses lipstick analogies along with humor and personal stories to dig into scripture passages that teach how to use our words wisely. Each day’s reading contains study questions and ways to reflect on what you have learned.
In this book you will discover how to:
  • Exfoliate: Scrub with Forgiveness
  • Soothe: Comfort with Encouragement
  • Plump: Enlarge with Praise
  • Line: Speak with Truth
  • Color: Choose Words with Grace
  • Gloss: Shine with Thankfulness
  • Seal: Protect with Discretion
  • Smile: Share with Joy

Join me on this Journey!

My local grocery store will put those bags of precooked, seasoned cut Chicken fajita meat on sale...buy one get one. Well I stock up...I mean I REALLY stock up. They are perfect for salads, quick soups and of course FAJITAS!

What it took from me

Its been two days since I put on my purple shirt and walked 3.5 miles in hope to find a cure.

My oldest wanted to raise 1,000 for the Walk to End Alzheimer's 5K, She wanted a team to pound the pavement in memory of what we have all lost and in the hope that one day there will be a cure.

In all a team of 9 hit the streets of Dallas with about 3,657 other people dressed in purple carrying our flowers.  Its quite empowering to be apart of something so moving, everyone there had been touched by it, wanted to end it or had it.  Drivers going past often asked us what we were walking for.

For me...I walked for granddaddy/Harold Delaney.  While I am completely beside my self in the fact that my preteen arranged, organized and fundraised 1,209.00 ( 209 past her goal) I am also sad.

What Alzheimer's took from me.....

Alzheimer's took the man who I viewed larger than life, it took my confidante and a man who was the same on Sunday morning as he was Saturday night.

Of course as girls we tend to really love our daddies and grandfathers as they seem to spoil us more. The way I was spoiled was not in material things or money but in the confidence that I could conquer the world knowing that I always had someone covering my back.  I knew I was loved by him, I never guess where I stood...I honestly think I could do no wrong.  When I made mistakes he didn't yell at me or get mad, he loved me though them.  There wasn't anything I couldn't do, no goal unattainable and no bar to high.

Because of him I know what its like to truly be cherished for being just who you are. He loved me for just being me not what I done, could do or could provide to him. That's a powerful thing to lose.

I miss leaving their place and him grabbing me in a big hug and tell me with tears in his eyes with his voice breaking as he talked  and tell me " You come back now real soon you hear, its been too long"

In the 7yrs I watched him decline he never remembered me, I lost him first.  My daughter lost him later towards the end where he didn't even know her. To be honest he always thought the little girl was me...and I didn't tell her any different. I wanted her to experience the love, support and Gift that God had given us in that man.

Once again as she lost him I felt a new pain, one that only a mother can feel when her child is hurt and we can do nothing to make it better.

When he died...I was instantly mad and upset at him because I thought for sure just any second a cure would be found and he would be restored to us.  Those are thoughts of a little girl who don't want to let go.

My most favorite memory was about 6 months before he passed away he had broken his hip and at that point in the progression of Alzheimer's he would eat and forget to swallow then aspirate him self. So he had to be hand fed.  I was sitting on his bed feeding him and for a split second he looked at me, I knew with out a shadow of doubt he knew me. We talked for all of 2 second I told him I missed him and loved him, then he was gone back the familiar stare of unknowing. That small moment in time helped heal the loss I had been feeling for so many years. 2 second I believe were given to me by God.

When he was moved into a Alz facility I found a diary of his...he was about 18. I had this read at his funeral because it is quite profound and from what I knew of him he lived to be this type of man.  Reading the final sentence I find it ironic that yes memories can be stolen away and that his were.
This is not the full passage but a glimpse of it.
"Wealth is not measured by dollars and scents alone. Material Measure's is a poor measure of wealth. Spiritual Knowledge, happiness, imagination and golden memories are the components of real wealth. They can bring happiness, they are stoned in the mind where no thief can ever steal them. "

He passed way on November 19th 2012, right before his favorite holiday. He always told me thanksgiving was what Christmas should be.  Its about sitting around a table, sharing a meal and being with the ones you love. No pretense, no fictional people (santa) to talk about, no gifts need to be bought or received...you were thankful to God for what you had, who you had it with and to be thankful for Gods Son.

They say it gets better with time....I'm still waiting.

Lent, Ash Wednesday, Fat Tuesday & What I am giving up / adding

I grew up Baptist, in the Bible Belt, Southern Baptist to be exact. That being said I grew up also observing Lent and Ash Wednesday.

How? You might ask, well its simple....my father would ask us each year what were we giving up for Lent and if we were giving up something physical (tv, food etc) we better enjoy it for the last time on Fat Tuesday. Growing up it wasn't expected of us to actually give something up , he would simply ask us to remind us that Jesus fasted for 40 days and how we might give up something as he gave up his life for us. Our Church did not observe it, it was a "Catholic thing" there for a good southern Baptist didn't observe it.

How my dad came to observe Lent I'm not real sure but its safe to say that other religions have fascinated him and in our house we did have several books on different types of religion's...usually a all in one reference book. He would read up on how a religion got started and what they observed.

Fat Tuesday - is most commonly referenced with Mardi Gras and yes its the day they have the biggest party...but Fat Tuesday is actually a religious holiday of sorts. Fat Tuesday is a Catholic holiday (primarily) and basically its your last chance to eat or do your lent offerings before Ash Wednesday / Lent. Fat Tuesday is also known as "Shove Tuesday". All celebrations end at midnight on Ash Wednesday in the French Quarter in observance of Ash Wednesday.

Ash Wednesday -  Ash Wednesday derives its name from the practice of blessing ashes made from palm branches blessed on the previous year's Palm Sunday, and placing them on the heads of participants to the accompaniment of the words "Repent, and believe in the Gospel" or "Remember that you are dust, and to dust you shall return". (from Wikipedia )

Lent - religious observance in the liturgical calendar of many Christian denominations that begins on Ash Wednesday and covers a period of approximately six weeks before Easter Sunday. The traditional purpose of Lent is the preparation of the believer through prayer, penance, repentance of sins, almsgiving, atonement and self-denial. This event, along with its pious customs are observed by Christians in the Anglican, Calvinist, Lutheran, Methodist, and Roman Catholic traditions. Today, some Anabaptist and evangelical churches also observe the Lenten season. (from Wikipedia)

Jesus fasted 40 days in the desert and during that time he was temped by the devil. The thought behind Lent  (if you are out of the Catholic faith , or so I am told) is to give up something personal and fast, as Jesus fasted.  That being said I see others also doing a reverse Lent, you add something.

So this year for Lent I am giving up Anger, I know super hard for me! I am quick to anger!! Its not always visible but I can get irritated very quickly....I think this is because I tend to wear my heart on my sleeve and my emotions often take over.  I am female after all.

This year I am also adding something.....I am going to spend the next 40 days learning or reading bible verses about anger. What God has to say about it, we know he says "Be Slow to anger" but I hope during this 40 days I will become less quick to anger!

I don't think Lent and Ash Wednesday is something anyone should skip, if anything it makes you focus on bringing your self to knowing Christ more and enduring just a small (extremely small) part of the suffering he did for us.  Its also a great opportunity to learn more about Christ and your self as well.

I do not think the next 40 days will be easy ones by any means, at this exact moment my 12yr is making as much noise as she can on purpose and keeps waking her little brother up. Giving up anger will be EXTREMLY Hard for me!

What are you giving up ?

Buffalo Ranch Chicken - Crockpot or Stove

Its not unknown that I LOVE Franks Red hot....I mean get a straw and drink it kind of love.

I'm also not someone who likes things spicy....but Franks has heat but flavor!

This recipe can be made in a 9x13 or in the crock pot....with a new born I was running behind schedule so I put it in the oven. Still ohh so yummy

4 Chicken Breast, Thighs or 6 Drum Sticks (Whatever's on sale)
1 cup Franks Buffalo Sauce (the actual Franks Buffalo Wing Sauce)
1 packet Ranch Dry Dressing

Mix Franks and Ranch until well blended
Place Chicken in pan or crock pot

(Here is where the recipe is different per cooking method)

Stove - Pour Franks mixture over chicken and cook for 45mins (or until well done)

Crock Pot- Cook Chicken for 3hrs on Low (or until done), drain juices and pour Franks mixture over chicken (I toss the chicken with the sauce to insure good coating) and cook for an additional 45 mins on low.

Serve and Enjoy!

Crockpot Coke Chicken

Well its been two weeks today that I delivered by beautiful baby boy via C-section.  Its been two very long weeks and I am finally being able to cook again with out restrictions! Chicken use to make me puke while preggin and bacon too.

Now that I am back to my old self Chicken has been on the menu almost every night of week and on top of that so has Franks Red-hot Sauce! (I LOVE that stuff)

Today is my first day at home by my self with my precious little boy, with my backup at work saying I am nervous is an understatement. I am still dealing with dizziness and uncontrollable blood pressure and I feel some days like a zombie!

So I am taking it easy....in short I honestly think I pushed my self too much.

I we tried this recipe today in our crockpot...and omg yum!

4 Chicken Breast (We actually used 6 drumsticks, they were on sale)
1 Bottle of BBQ Sauce (any kind will work, we used Kroger Hickory)
1/2 Can Cherry Coke (I actually used a little more )
1/2 C. Brown Sugar

Mix Coke, BBQ Sauce and Sugar together
Pour over Chicken already in crockpot

Cook on Low for 5hrs

We thickened the sauce after cooking, and used as extra sauce for chicken...yum
